Cool 460 questions

I have a 78 bronco with a 460. The motor was rebuilt and then drove for approx 3k miles. Then the motor was yanked out and sat in a garage for 3 years. It has an oversize cam and had some work done to the heads. I have the motor in and running with low oil pressure less than 10 psi. I chnged the motor oil and filter, new plugs, and wires. I am also having trouble timing it with out a mark on the crank to use as a reference. Need some ideas.

Thanks
Mick

well a question for you, are you checking the oil preasure with a mechanical gauge? And at what rpm? As to the timing, are you saying there is no marks on the harmonic damper, or you don't have a timing pointer on the engine? if it's just the pointer you can either findone at a wrecking yard or make one with a wire and set it by taking out the #1 spark plug and finding TDC then bend the wire to match up with TDC on the damper (this is good as a temp solution as it will move rather easily) if it's just marks on the damper that are not there you can buy timing tape or once again find TDC and take some white paint and put a mark on the damper for that position, using tdc only you wil probably have to get a timing light that has the dial for the advance on it.

My book says you check oil pressure at 2500 rpm and it should be no less than 35 psi. I have never seen and idle or 1100 rpms spec on any engine.

I only reved it up to 1100 because the oil pressure gauge did not move very from 0. I did find the problem. Now I am running great oil pressure. 65-70
Thanks for the response.
