Cable for emissions test missing?

Ibought my 97 F250 used. I took it to get a insp. sticker. They said that a cable was cut out to avoid the check engine light from illuminating and it made getting the sticker a hassle. It was located under the dash. Can i fix this?
Thanks

The wire feeding the light is a pink/lightgreen. You should be able to hook it back up. You can probably expect it to burn all the time, in which case you will have to put a code reader on it to find out what's wrong. Have you looked over the engine compartment? I am assuming the inspection guys did? How much looks modified under there? I hope it's still fuel injected.

If it is a 5.8L F-Series 49 states over 8,500 GVW it is not supposed to have one under the dash.
It is still an OBD I and the cable is at the drivers hood hinge on the fender.

I thought he meant the wire to the light was cut. If you cut the cable to the scan port, that will not kill the check engine light will it?

No I do think so but I was just guessing, as that is what the Inspection Station told him when they could not find the OBD II plug on a 97.

The Isptn Station said it was cut and that it would kill the check engine light, but they didnt look elsewhere for the OBD cable. It is a 5.8L so I will check the driver side fender well for the cable. Thanks.
