2000's came with D-50's. Maybe you got lucky and a previous owner (if there is one) put a later-year front end into yours.

I believe Ford began the D-60's in 2002.

Can someone tell me the difference between the dana 50 parts and the dana 60 parts? It is just the case?

Ford Dana 50 frontends have big U-joints and 1.5 inch diameter shafts like the Dana 60's but then taper down to a 1.31 inch 30 spline just like a Dana44 where the splines end , the weakest part of the axle.

Dana 50's have a 9" ring gear vs the 60 has a 9.75" ring gear

Parts like lockers and ring and pinion gears are more available for the 60 than the 50.

I haven't had any issues with my '01 with a Dana 50, but I don't work the front like I do the rear.

Hope that helps some.

Austin
