I just bought my first new truck. It's a dark pearl blue 07 F-150 FX4 Reg. cab, short box, and is pretty loaded with options. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions about a wax or anything i should put on my truck right away. I just want to try and prevent anything from happening to the paint for as long as possible. Can someone recommend a product and the proper way to apply it?h
i just tried turtle wax ice. pretty good stuff. easy to put on and easy to take off. DO NOT USE ON WINDOWS. leave that for rainx. and you can't go wrong with meguiar's. there's a few other products that have been mentioned on these forums that persons liked but you'll have to search for those. oh, and the first thing you need to do is get a bugshield to protect the front of your hood, the hood and hopefully avoid windshield bugs or even worse cracks/chips from rocks. the shield will only do so much for rocks, but it better than nothing. or you could get a bulletproof windshield. $$$$$$$$$$.
I tried turtle wax ice this last weekend too and it never dried to a haze. The instructions said it should haze in 3-5 minutes, but after 10 minutes it was still wet. Perhaps I got a bad bottle...

Ive used Mothers Gold Carnuba for a number of years in the paste. Takes a full afternoon to do a full sized vehicle right. A lot of people give up or short cut before it is done.
1.Claybar the entire truck
2. Apply Zanio Bros. They have a new application out for daily drivers, and a plethora of products that are supurbe. Somewhere on the web there is a guy who took the hood off of an old Honda and preped and waxes different areas of the hood with different products and then exposed the thing to the elements for a year...Zanio Bros won "hands down".
3. Use Z-Bros detailing mists to spruce up between washes.
4. Order one of their cool T-shirts while you're at it...
i have the bottle of turtle wax ice as well and although it did not dry to a haze it was By Far The Easiest wax i have ever used. very easy to apply and remove (it doesnt turn the plastic white like other waxes). i loved it i was done in less than an hour.
If its brand new...use a good carnauba wax paste...this will protect the finish from the start...no need to use a polish unless the finish is damaged or swirled...
no, ice is not a carnuba wax, it is a new polymeric wax designed for the automotive finishes of today, the carnuba wax was made for the finishes of the 80's. imo
