Ok I am fairly new here. I have looked through the forums for information many times over the years. I am seeking knowledge. I recently bought an 82 F-250 4x4 4spd truck. I knew it didn't run quite right when I picked it up I tried to adjust timing and the carb to get rid of the backfiring. Didn't work,so I gave up for a month or so. I finally pulled the carb apart today and both metering rods were bent 90 degrees and the left mixture screw was broke in half. Hmmmm good reason for rich conditions. Here is the question I really don't feel like getting the new parts for the carter. and I am looking for a good match for a new carb. I don't know much about the motor other than I was told it was a 351M turned into a 400 lord knows when. and I know it has an edelbrock streetmaster 400 intake on it, and headers . not sure wheat else may be done to it but before the carb was screwed up my brother tried to pull it with his 97 PS 4x4 and they were dead even. I am assuming there is other work done. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
well I finally got the carb on adjusted and everything. still runs like crap. I ca't stand the popping in the exhaust. now that I wasted money on a new holley, I have decided I think since I have a 460 efi with all the accsessories and wiring harness sitting around I might just go through with swapping.
Popping in the exhaust can be several things, a misfiring plug or cracked distributor cap or crossed plug wires. I would chack the plugs first, could have a fouled one.
The plugs wires cap and rotor were all the first things I replaced . I have no arcing no crossed wires nothing. Eh I thinks its time for a motor swap anyway.
