Made an appointment for my '04 Lariat for this Thursday. It seems that some electrical gremlin has gotten into the steering wheel radio controls. At random, the volume button changes the station, raises and lowers the fan speed and does the same with the temp. I'll let you know how I make out. Luckily it's still under warranty!!
Simmy,
Let me know how it goes. I have an '04 Lariat also with the same bells and whistles. Almost sounds like a bare wire may be arcing and causing one function to do something else or 2 wire connections are close enough to do that. I like the featuer but I know that one day it will crap out on me and then I will be back to the old standard "push the button".
The system is a bit goofy, but it comes down to resistances. There is a feed wire for each set of buttons, cruise, climate and radio, plus a single ground for all. Pushing volume up may cause say a 5 ohm resistance in these wires, which a control module then measures and takes the appropriate action. If you have a bad button with poor connections the resistance may come out to 10 ohms, which might correspond to volume down.
