I am looking for info on doing this swap. The truck is an '88 Bronco with the 351W F.I. and auto transmission. The 351 and transmission are already out. The 429 and C6 are mated together and is ready to install. What kind of problems am I going to run into? How do I wire the distributor and alternator? I assume I will have to add a voltage regulator. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
I'll be swapping a EFI460&E4OD into my '90 Bronco soon. At first, I thought of going with a 460-4V,instead,but three guys e-mailed me back who have EFI460s in their Broncos.Re-wiring the truck sorta scared me,but they all said, while it was tedious, and took time,it was worth it.I CAN'T WAIT TO GET A EFI460 IN MY BRONCO!!! I also considered using a EFI429 from a wrecked F-700 dumptruck(the 429 truck engines are said to have forged steel cranks&beefer rods...),but decided on a EFI460,instead. Your 429(like my 460) will need a remote oil filter,as the stock position interferes with a frame crossmember. You'll also need big-block motor mounts, like L&L Products sell,or you can get ones through Ford via the parts counter at your local dealership. F-250/F-350 460 motor mounts should work. If I were you, I'd consider opening up your 429's exhaust with a set of headers& a 2 1/2" custom bent dual exhaust system.Good luck with your Bronco project!
L&L motor mounts are the only way to go. I broke two F-250 motor mounts before I went to the L&Ls. And it's no fun changing them.
Use the alternator and wiring connections from your 351.
What type of ignition system are you running? It doesn't sound like your 429 is EFI.
Exhaust manifolds on the passenger side are limited to Econoline (somebody correct me if I'm in error about this)or headers. I use a set of Hedman tube headers intended for the F-250 460. One little adjustment with a last resort tool allows them to clear the passenger-side frame rail. Install them (drop them in place) before engine installation. I hear nothing but good things about L&L headers.
If you run dual exhaust with manifolds or headers, install a remote transmission cooler. The exhaust pipes from collector to muffler will run on both sides of the C6.
My application, using a Edlebrock RPM Manifold and Edlebrock 750cfm carb, required a throttle cable from an F-250 460.
Use braided steel lines on the remote oil filter (L&L) - I fried rubber lines as they run right next to the driver-side header/exhaust.
If you use the F-250 motor mounts and your power steering pump pulley wants to touch the steering box, you'll have to fanagle that by raising the P/S mount.
