Fuel Problem?

Fuel Problem?

I have an 02 f350 7.3 It sat for a month When i went to use it it ran about a mile and quit. No previous problems. I trouble shooted and discoverd no fuel going to filter housing. check relays ok. Then replaced fuel pump still no fuel being pumped. next morning tried it fuel pump ran I heard it. Truck ran for about Ten minutes and Quit. Any ideas. Would the fuel pressure regulator have any thing to due with this?

I would suspect that your fuel pickup in the tank is being plugged by something. Try disconnecting the line from the pump intake, blow compressed air into it. Connect it back up and open the fuel drain on the fuel bowl (with a hose attached to the drain tube, going to a container.) Turn the key on and see if you have fuel flowing then.

If you get fuel at that point, you're going to have to drop the tank and clean it out because it's going to plug up again shortly.

Welcome to FTE, Brownie575!

I agree w/ guzzle's suggestion. Others have run into the same problem with the pickup getting clogged... hopefully this turns out to be your issue, too, as it's pretty straightforward.

Just remember to take the cap off the tank when you blow air through the line.

Thanks Guys but I don't think thats the problem, when I replaced fuel pump there was plenty of flow behind the Pump and the pump never even tried to start. I feel somthings not telling the pump to start. I will try your suggestions and stay in touch. let me know if u guys have any other ideas.

By the way this is a GREAT SITE

Welcome to the site. I'm sure you will find your answers here. You could try running a hot wire from battery to pump and bypass all switches, fuses and relays. This will let you know if the pump is ok.

Quite true. It can even be done with a battery charger.
