Is there a special tool to remove the mirror glass from paddle mirrors w/o breaking the glass? The plastic swivel piece that mounts to the door is broke and I need to replace it and I need to unplug the power wires behind the mirror because my square plug won't slide through the other way.
Have you tried tilting the mirror all the way over to the left and either up or down to create working space? I had to do that to remove my cover for my KR for parts replacement.
Yes, that's why I'm wondering if there is a tool to release the mirror because it looks like there is a couple clips on each side of the center of the mirror between the two power modules.

There should just be a connection for the defrost function. But you should just beable to pull the glass out. It will pop out. Then unsnap the connection for the defrost. The new one is a pain to install though... well at least can be.. take a look at this it may help.

this looks like the force would crack the mirror glass. has anyone done this using the instructions in the pdf file? i need to install some lights on the front of the mirror housings.
You do not need to remove the mirror glass to replace the LEDs on the outer edge...You can carefully remove the cover (watch those tabs, they're real fragile) and then the LED unit unplugs and you squeeze two tabs and that plastic unit comes right off.
To remove the cover just adjust the mirror all the way left then right and up and down... each time you can reach in behind the glass and undue the snaps.
Be very careful, I broke the white drive pin for the power adjustment while taking the mirror out. Now they say have to buy a whole new mirror they dont sell just the white drive pin. figures
