84 Bronco with 351W, 2 barrel, just rebuilt along with C6 transmision. Idles fine parttime and wont' idle at others. Also tends to surge going down the road. It has numerous vacumn hoses and servos for emissions. Had carb rebuilt less than 2 years ago. Would like to remove all the emmision garbage and simplify engine. What would be required? New Carb, Dist, ignition?
Hi there,
I recently bought an '82 with a 351W that had Calif. emissions.
I'm not sure, but I don't think there is much difference from 82 - 84. What I had to do was remove the computer from under the driver's seat, the main wire harness and the air pump. I replaced the ignition module, distributor, cap, rotor, and main wire harness.
I'm not a mechanic, so it was a real pain in the ##### and took a while, but, somehow it runs.
I wish I could tell you how to do it but the human mind tends to delete bad memories
I hope this at least gives you an idea where to start.
Good Luck!
I have a 83 Bronco that I took all the emission crap off. which had California Emisions. All I did was took the pump off and all the hoses. And plugged the ports on the carb, but I hooked up the brake booster to the carb and replaced the vaccum port on the intake manifold with a brass plug. Took out the EGR and made a plate to cover the hole. For where the egr pipes bolted to the head. I unbolted it and cut the pipe just long enough to crush it and weld it shut then rebolted to the heads. The only thing that I still have is the Cat. Just because I havn't replaced the exhaust yet. My Bronco runs great no problems at all.
