latest trip

Well I got to California last night from Texas. Was working in Texas and now I start work in California tomorrow. Trip went well except for the a/c starting to act up. Traveled somewhere about 1350 miles and used approximately 153 gallons of #2. 8.8 mpg average, thats the part that is hurting me, but I pulled across the scales and they said combined I weighed 20660 lbs. Thats with a tag along trailer and all of my junk I have in it. I tried to stay around 65 to 70 mph but the wind was something fierce across west Texas to Tucson. When I fueled today I got roughly 10 mpg since California state line. I guess because they think you can only do 55 while you tow anything so I did 60. Which was 2k rpms. I really put the BTS trans to the test with these mountians out this way. I dont know if I went up the grapevine. I was on I 10 until I got towards L A and then got on the I 210. I did go up hwy 101 to hwy 154 though the Los Padres forest and that was some serious hills and turns. Gave the truck a good workout and she liked it. Sorry for the ramble.

On the route you described, you did not go down the Grapevine. It's north out of L.A., on I-5, about 30 miles south of Bakersfield.

That was a pretty-good climb out of Santa Barbara on CA-154, wasn't it? ;-)))

Yes it was a pretty good climb. I have been out here before but not pulling a trailer or anything. Was up by Tahoe and am planning my return trip thru there. Yes those things in the east are just speed bumps compared to out this way. Only bad thing is its like 63* here and I can see the Pacific from my camper. But its to cold to go in ((
