AC condensor question
I bought my F250 from work and it's been used hard and put up wet so-to-speak, but I'm finding that for the most part, she's a pretty reliable truck. (knock on wood)
Aside from aesthetics and minor issues, she seems to be in great shape mechanically.
Now, while looking at my truck, I can see through the grill that what I think is the AC condensor (large metal thing with lots of close together metal lines that looks more like a rock and bug catcher than anything else - reminds me of my refrigerator condensor) has some damage to it. Especially towards the bottom where tack from our asphalt crew has been flung up through the lower valance and basically plastered it.
The AC does not work in the truck (heater does), so I'm wondering if this part could be replaced to restore AC (after recharging, etc ...).

WELCOME to FTE!!
You'll find that there's not a part on that truck that cannot be replaced. However, the A/C may need more (or different) than the condenser in front. I would have it checked for refrigerant level and leak tested if they ahve to put any in. Go from there.

Thanks for the welcome, Pete. I've already found TONS of helpful information and I'm sure this site will become a much loved reference in the near future. I've already read threads on how to do my own o/c and adjust my sloppy steering.

i am certified a/c mechanic i know that if the cond. is plugged like you explain it will make the a/c perform very poorly. If it is not working at all i would take it to a shop that knows how to work on a/c systems. If it needs a recharge ask them where the leak was because that refrigerant will not just disapear. Alot of shops will just recharge and tell you it was low.

fbilly... perhaps you can take a quick spin over here to Birmingham and help me get my '96 burb's system re-activated (just needs leak check and re-charge, I put on a new compressor and accumulator).

Listen guys, I know how to get hold of a blue label for the front of that "other company's vehicle". Shoot, now that I think of it, that might just fix everything that's wrong with it anyways, hunh??
Seriously, though, as soon as I can get the carpets either cleaned/replaced and get the A/C back "on cool", that puppy is leaving my driveway fr I don't care where... my '03 Excursion arrived Friday at noon and I'm ALMOST all blue now.
