hi all, I have a 95 F-250. For about the last two months I have been getting a shock from the truck every time I get out. Its either thru my jeans as I touch the bottom of the door casing frame or thru the hand as I close the door. I have had the truck almost 2 years and ,like I said it started about 2 months ago. Any idea as to whats causing this or how to stop it? thanks all, Bob
If the air is dry you can get a static shock. This is from the build up of a charge on your truck as it travels thru the air. The rubber tires insulate your truck from the ground so the charge has nowhere to go. When you step out, you complete the "circuit" and get zapped.
Worst conditions are very cold and very dry at the same time. The air isn't holding much moisture in these conditions so the static builds up to higher levels.
You could maybe buy a static strap as you sometimes see hanging from big rigs and trailers. Oyou can do Like I do.
When I get out of a car during static conditions, I hold onto the door and stomp my foot onto the ground. Either this gets rid of the charge or you just don't feel it thru the stomp.
By the way, this static discharge is sometimes the cause of refueling fires so you should be careful refueling when it is very dry.
That is the way to do it, just remember to hold onto a metal part as you step onto the ground. Sometimes I can feel the discharge through one of my feet.
If it is the seat upholstery generating the charge, there are sprays sold in the same
area as the fabric softening or treatments at the super market. The kind that eliminates static cling.
