Under my dash at the OBD 2 connector there is a small push button. It is located on the OBD 2 bracket just above and to the left. Pressing it, as I looked at the instrument panel for some change, I see only the Odometer numbers dim.
Anyone have any clue as to what this thing does?
When I had the keyless entry on my truck I had a button similiar to that. It was for the bypass start in case the brain quits working in the keyless system. Just a thought.
If I remember correctly it would be an override switch for the alarm in case your remote went south. It would let you start the truck by pressing the button and a number of key turns on the ignition or vise versa. You might want to check out what kind of alarm you have and see if you can find a manual of some sort to be sure.
I had occasion to be under the dasboard again today hooking up the water control valve on the heater circuit. Geting ready for hot weather. Supposed to be 90° here Friday. I followed the wiring back from this pushbutton and you guys were right, it is part of the alarm system. The alarm system does not work so I cannot tell you what it does but thanks to all who responded.
