I have an 86 302EFI with AOD. According to the Haynes manual, air intake is measured by an air flow meter. I have looked at the illustrations, diagrams and on my engine. I cannot find the air flow meter. Can anyone tell me where it is located? Is it replacable or maintainable?
Are you sure they're not referring to a California model with mass air? If you're truck wasn't built with California emissions (and, for all I know, even if it was in '86!), you should have a speed-density type system, which infers the mass of the air from calculations based on measurements of throttle position (throttle position sensor), manifold pressure (MAP sensor), and rpm. In short, there is no mass air meter..... just two hoses running from your air box (where the filter is located) to your throttle body.
Someone help us out, here..... I know there have to be diagrams, if nothing else I know I've seen individual Ford truck shop manuals available on CD-ROM. I'll look around some after this post. I don't know if Ford equipped the very first 302EFI's ('85 and '86 models) with mass air in California, but I know that the later '80's models with Ca. emissions had it. If yours has a mass air meter, it will be located inline, between the air filter box and the throttle body. This won't be hard to miss - it will have a round opening which allows air to pass through, and will have several wires leading out of it. I'll let you know if I can find test specifications or procedures.
