Tranny problems??? or engine miss???

I have a '88 bronco with a 302 and the AOD tranny. For a while now I have been noticing a hesitation at random RPMs but mostly at freeway speeds and especially on hills. At first I thought it was a miss in the engine but lately it has been sounding like a transmission problem. It doesn't sound like a shifting problem because it doesn't happen when shifting but it could be just slipping. However I have doubts because everytime it happens the "check engine" light will blink on and then go off. Would this light come on as the result of a malfunctioning transmission?? Lately the hesitation has not been occuring quite as often but now it is only doing it when I hit a bump in the road. It has 110,000 miles on it and I don't think the tranny has ever been replaced. I just had the tranny fluid replaced and the shop said the old fluid showed no signes of a deteriorating tranny. I am going to replace the spark plugs and wires this weekend just to see if there is bad connection somewhere in the wires that could be comming loose when I hit a bump. Has anyone else experienced problems like this or have any ideas on how to fix the problem?

Also on a side note: Does anyone know if there is a conversion kit out there to go from the crappy push button 4WD setup to a manual t-case setup.

Thanks for any help
Josh

Do you know how to pull the error codes on the engine computer? This should point you in the right direction. The computer is seeing a problem, and is turning the check engine light on.

Had a similar problem with my 88 4.9L. Turned out to be clogged injectors.
