I am putting a '93 351 in my '96 that has a 302 right now. The 351 has the lower intake but not the plenum. My question is are the upper plenums the same for the 302 and 351??
The 302's upper has rectangular ports, and the 351 has oval. You have two choices, use them without matching, or at least hog out enough to make the 302 gasket NOT look like its too big. You could get a 351w upper, but that would be pointless as the 302's flows so much better (or at least they say so on here).
So the ports on the lower intake on the 351 will need to be matched to the ports on the upper of the 302?? I am really just looking for it to run decently until I have enough money to get an edelbrock upper and lower.
It will run with the 302 upper, but if you have a die grinder and aren't afraid to gasket match the lower chances are it'll flow better than the edelbrock. The stock units were pretty good. The mustang upper with just a throttle body change will support about 400hp IIRC.
It might, it might not. I don't remember, I do know that the factory intakes are pretty good though. My 351 in my van had 30lb/hr injectors, and made good power on a stock upper. It had a larger TB.
No you can't put a 302 intake on a 5.8, the block is wider.
Also don't bother trying to gasket match a 5.8 lower to a 5.0 upper. The 5.0 runners are rectangular versus the oval 5.8 runners. and there isn't enough aluminum in the 351 lower to do this correctly. Besides you would have to open up the whole length of each runner to make it work, not just the area near the gasket surface.
i have an upper intake for the 351w if you are interested, i would sell. i actually just put a 302 in my truck that had a 351w in it, so i have all the 351w parts. complete fuel injection, with harness etc...
