i have replaced the radiator twice with new ones
with in the past year and they last 4 or 5 months
then leak in the same place on the lower right
where the aluminum and plastic join. the truck is
99 f-150 4x4 w/5.4 can anyone help me
That sounds like a mounting or QC problem. My first suggestion would be to get an all aluminum rad from be cool or the like. You can try tightening the body mount bolts and looking for anything that might touch the rad as the truck flexes.
thanks guys for the help. i checked the mounts
on the radiator they looked real tight. too tight
i think. got a lifetime warrenty on the radiator
i change it and leave mounts a little loose and
see what happens once again thanks
Are you sure you do not have a headgasket that is starting to blow? That many radiators in such a short time would lead me to suspect an excessive pressure problem. I have seen the headgaskets puke on the mod engines (4.6 and 5.4's) and they dump pressure to the coolant system and maybe a slight weep down the side of the block.
With the truck cold, take the cap off from the coolant reservior and start the truck. Allow it to run long enough for the thermostat to open. check for air bubbles coming into the coolant resevoir.
I have had the same problem with my 99 F150 5.4L. I replaced the original radiator the beginning of 04 and replaced again in the end of 05. Now it is leaking again. Same place....just above the drain **** where the tank meets the core.
I bought this radiator from the local radiator shop. I believe it is a Visteon.
Any resolution on this? No other leaks that I can see on the truck. I will check the overflow tank to see if it is bubbling, but it is not running rough at all.
