Is the 73 I beams longer than the 68's I just put I beams and all on my 68 for my disc brake conv. the front end dosent appear any wider but my front clip isnt on either I was curious if my fenders would clear the tires
If you look closely rear axle assy track widths, they're narrower than front I Beam track widths on all 1965 thru 1972 light & medium duty F series trucks. Blow ties are they same way except they kept them unequal into the 80s or 90s
When FoMoCo Added the 1-1/2 Inch per side [+3" total] increase to widen the frames from 1973 & later, they actually only made both axle track widths on 4X2 trucks equal. Better handling with a load, trailer, camper, or cross winds was the objective I believe. Some folks say it was to accomodate the wider in frame Fuel Tank, but I doubt that, It was all about safety & handling with various type of loading conditions.
