Door Window Questions

I replaced my vent window gaskets yesterday and in the process I busted off the upper tab on the drivers side. The window stays but is basically unopenable now. Is there any one window conversion kits available or does a window from any newer truck fit? These vent windows are pissing me off. The lower tabs are rusted off anyways and nobody repops them that I have seen.

Upper tab..prolly mean upper pivot for vent window.

junkyard searches:

C1TZ-8121608-A // C1TZ-8121609-A .. Vent Frame R/L

Fits: 1961/66 F100/1100 / 1961/66 N NT T500/1000 / 1967/72 F800/1000 & N NT500/1000

The pivot was available by itself...

C3TZ-8121464-A // C1TZ-8121465-A .. Pivot R/L

Application same as above.

N & NT use the same cab, but have a sloped front end.

I did the same thing last night. I replaced all my weatherstripping in my doors and broke that tab as well! My passenger side is real tight too, I'm gonna deal with it today.

Frank, It is my understanding from reading others reports that new weather stripping is very tight for a few days. Give it a couple o weeks to settle in before you try adjusting it. IMHO

Yes, new weatherstip can make opening and closing difficult. Not sure, in meantime, may try backing off on the vent assembly nut slightly see if that helps while weatherstrip sets. Can later adjust as needed, don't believe you want too loose and flapping in the breeze, may weaken the pivot arms.

I was unable to find vent window pivot arms so picked up couple vents from salvage yard and with some mix and matching of parts was able to assemble good set using ' rivets' purchased at local auto part supplier. Cheap route, time consuming, but they now work great.

To late for me, done broke both of those @#%$*&^%$#@ now! It'll be okay just cannot open until I find some replacement parts. Could be to tight due to the sticker on them that said "Made in Taiwan". Shouda went with DC's parts maybe. I know some stuff is not the best from other suppliers. I will get DC's stuff for the door and windsheild 'stripping.

From experience, found best to go for quality. Not familiar w/ all Ford part suppliers but D.C. reproduction weatherstip is very close to origninal. Makes replacing relatively easy when inserts and molding lineup.

The right side is usually where the pivot breaks, because the right vent gets used very little. Spraying WD-40 on the pivots helps to loosen them up a little. Since nothing sold anymore has vent windows, ppl today that buy these old rides don't use them as much (one reason = less ppl smoke today), but before the days of flow thru ventilation..opening the vent windows was the only way to get fresh air flow into the cabin, without rolling down the door glass, which caused excessive wind blast at speed.

Interesting factoid: GM was the first to offer vent windows (in 1934..they called it "No Draft Ventilation"). GM was the first to discontinue some vent windows in 1965.

One reason vent windows came and went. Having vent windows was more costly to the manufacturers...with all the rigamarole and extra labor it took to install them. It was cheaper to use a one piece window. Saving a few cents amortisized over a million units put more money into the manufacturers pockets. Did they pass those saving on to the consumer? Nope.
