Rudy by William Overgaard...last drawn about 15 years ago. The cartoonist was a master at drawing cars and trucks, which look exactly like the real thing, rare in any comic strip. Rudy is a Hollywood actor, and an ape. His girlfriend is a parrot. The time is pre-war Hollywood. All the "actors" in the strip reflect real people like Bogie and Gable.

Calvin and Hobbes & The Far Side are classics. Out of the recent stuff I really like Maakies, and when I was living in Santa Cruz, there was a local strip called DeCinzo that was great.
As a kid, and even now, Garfield (a H.S. friend once golfed with Jim Davis, real down-to-earth guy, he said). I thought Bloom County was a riot, but haven't seen or followed the later iterations. B.C. (RIP, Johnny) is a favorite, along with Mallard Fillmore. Our newspaper (turds) dropped Foxtrot (my name's Jason--that was me years ago). The Far Side was a great one as well, along with Calvin and Hobbes.
I also like a good, equal-bashing-opportunity political cartoon, but for some reason, not Doonesbury.
