is 140K too many miles?
thanks to all the replies to my first post. i am walking away from the guy. he is just really shady about it and trying to pressure me to buy it. on the other hand. there is this other guy with the exact same car but it has 140K miles on it.
my dad says that's way too many miles, but i wasn't sure, since most of the bronco's i'm looking at have around that many miles.
it's a 95 XLT Bronco. it used to be a Los Angeles County Sheriff's car. he's asking for $7200 but was willing to go lower.
is this too many miles? i'm just concerned that it won't last me for another 4-5 years without expensive repairs.

nah i dont think 140K is too many miles, cuz i got an 85 with 137K and she is still running strong. And since it was a cop car, its probably had pretty good care. Just one thought, you might want to ask if it ever got involved in any of those PIT moves you see in cops.

Sounds like this person is trying to get "book value" out of you.
That dose not mean ther vehicle is worth a darned thing. They both sound shady. I once purchased an '93 with under 70,000 miles for $8900. Book was $12,900 at the time. Be watchful of people like this.
You can obtain a "book" that shows values at places like Auto-Zone, Wal-Mart, etc.
BTW, smart decision to ask before purchasing.
There is always someone trying to beat somebody out of something for some reason.
At any rate, good luck finding a vehicle.

I bought a 1994 Bronco XLT with 163,000 miles on it October, 2000 for $6500. The tranny had just been rebuilt and the power steering pump and steering box had been recently replaced but, this was probalby due to the big tires the old owner ran on the truck. Engine has a little bit of oil that blows by the rings but, it burns less than a quart every 3000 miles. I love this vehicle.

I am not sure if you mean it was a police car or owned by a police man. I have a 93 with a 351 and an E40D tranmission. I have owned the car for about a year now and have put 30,000 miles on it and it has been a chore to keep up with the repairs. Nothing big, but plenty of small stuff, thats what you get when you buy and old car. That price is too high, offer him 6,500 if he wont take it then keep looking. There is cheaper Bronco's in the LA area. If it was a police departments car then inspect it very carefully, many time those cars are beat to death then sold at auctions for very cheap. i have seen former police broncos sold at auctions (the 605 FWY & Vally Blvd) for under 4,000. Even some drug siezed Bronco's for the same price. Don't be impatient.
