Stalling when shifting to reverse and when stopping
I have a 95 Bronco with the 5.0L. When the engine and tranny are fully warmed up it will stall when shifting from park or drive into reverse. It also will stall every now and then when I come to a quick stop. Does anybody have any ideas what could be going on with it?
Another question I had what is the towing capacity of a 95 Bronco with a 5.0L.
Stalling when shifting to reverse and when stopping
Steve, it could be several things causing this, but first I would clean the throttle body. I had the same problem with a Jeep Cherokee, and after cleaning carbon out, it idles like new. Don't know if this is causing your poor idle, but it dosen't cost anything and is worth a try. Sorry, I don't know tow rating. Good luck. Don

This is the place to start. Clean all the gunk in the vicinity of the of the butterfly valve in the throttle bore. Idle is controlled by a fixed amount of air flowing between the slightly opened butterfly valve and a controlled amount of air flowing through the by-pass valve on the manifold. When the bore is fouled restricting the flow of air past the butterfly valve, the by-pass valve can't meet the added demand for air to maintain idle. If cleaning has no effect, you can dissassemble the by-pass valve and do more cleaning. If still no luck you may need a new by-pass valve. A quick test is to pull the harness of the by-pass valve while the engine is idling. The engine should studder, cough, and finally stall. If it stalls immediatly it usually means the by-pass valve is bad. Good Luck

Stalling when shifting to reverse and when stopping
A friend of mine has a 93 with the eod trans. and had the same problem. The tranny was low on fluid (about 1 qt.)and that caused his problem.I don't know why, but topping off the fluid level took care his troubles.
Stalling when shifting to reverse and when stopping
I have a 93 bronco, 351 + e40d, mine used to stall in reverse a lot of the time. I did a fluid at filter change in the tranny, and it has completely stopped. That was about 6 months ago, never once has done it since. Just an idea.
Stalling when shifting to reverse and when stopping
Sometimes mine stalls when in 4WD. It has only happened when in thick sand that I needed to lock the hubs to get out of. After I got out of the rut, it stalled. The truck is in good tune and all of that, and has never stalled in 2WD. I really do not want to change the tranny fluid (see my post about the noise shifting from reverse to drive). What does tranny fluid have to do with stalling?
