That article is a little thin. I've got institutional access to most publications through my work so I'll pull the full article when I get to work in the morning. I'm curious how they can forecast the number of deaths next year in LA caused by E85. I'm guessing E85 combustion creates more than CO, and is possibly an O3 agonist? Most folks don't realize how bad ozone is to your lungs...and your tires.
Even assuming the article IS correct, it states, "The result of switching entirely to E85 fuel would be 185 more deaths per year across the U.S., with 125 of those in Los Angeles."
So 185 more deaths out of the 2.4 million people that die annually?? Pfff....that is an increase of about 0.00077% I would almost bet that falls well below any type of statistical significance.
that is an increase of about 0.00077% I would almost bet that falls well below any type of statistical significance.
Good point, but I'll bet they are referring to a clinical population, like asthmatics or folks with COPD. Even so, numbers that low would have little significance. I didn't get a chance to pull the full article today. We had a bit of excitement here today...
First the article says deaths will increase in LA. Then the article goes on to say the ozone level may actually fall in So Cal. Either I am not reading it right or I missed something.
