need some suggestions on a new stereo
Stock unit finally went south. Looking for a DD unit with an sd card input.Anybody install anything lately in their truck that they like? Oh and i am not having much luck getting the stock one out ,even with that removal tool. Any tricks there that could help?
thanks for replies,Roy

Factory removal tool needs to be fully popped in place, then spread them outward (sometimes a good amount of effort) while pulling the unit out.
I just put in a Sony MEX-N5000BT and love it. Doesn't have an SD card, didn't know they made that? This one has a USB port, as well as Aux jack on the front. Is Blue Tooth, Front and Rear line outs as well as a Sub out. Has built in HP Crossover for front and rear speakers, and LP crossover for the sub channel. Speakers in my cab were already upgraded to Kenwoods. I have a 500W MTX sub amp and 10" Kenwood "tube style" sub enclosure.
I only amp'd the sub. The head unit amp is plenty enough power with the HP x-over activated for the four main speakers.
Very simple installation...so much room to work compared to cars ;-) I am driving my truck a lot right now because honestly it might be the best sounding aftermarket system I have done in my vehicles. So back to your post...I'm loving it
Oh...just saw you prefer a double din. Mine is a single DIN.

I recently installed a "Pyle" double din unit with sd card port, usb port, ipod dock cable, dvd player, backup camera... and it was only like 130$ or so.
I got a 2nd one for my Wife's cop car and she seems to like it ok.
I will see if i can find a link.
Oh look... here it is:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pyle-PLDN73I-7-Double-Din-DVD-CD-USB-SD-AM-FM-Receiver-iPod-Connector-Remote-/151073455404?pt=US_Video_In_Dash_Units_w_o_GPS&hash=item232cadfd2c
It has aux outputs for amps and whatnot.
Plenty loud enough on just the factory speakers.
With the sub amps hooked up, everything equalizes and meshes nicely.

That looks pretty sweet, and a great price. I would have done something like that but I wanted single DIN with removeable face. Granted, in hindsight there is more value in my gauges, XM radio and Scan Gauge to possible theft And at 80W x 4 that is plenty to drive the cab speakers! Thanks for causing me to reconsider......

The 80w x4 was really the selling point. The rest was just extra... like i need a dvd playing while im driving... as if i didnt have enough luminous distractions already lol.
Tell you what tho
That head unit driving the factory stock speakers in my Wife's cop cap is dang near deafening!
In Motorbug... the thing drives the 2 12"s in the rear box, and the 10" in the center console (well their respective amps anyway) almost effortlessly. I had to cut the bass output way back on the head unit. More than the old factory speekz can handle.
