I have 130,000 miles on my 86 F-150 4x4. It drives fine but leaks everywere. I'm dropping the transmission to change seals and I'm thinking of changing the torque converter while I'm in there. Do torque converters go bad... is that a waste of time. Any thoughts?

I cant think of a time that I know of that a torque converter went bad. I would drain the fluid out of it and replace it when you have the trans gone through.
For the most part you only repalce the converter when you rebuild/replace the transmission or if you're building a performance motor.
The converter ::can:: go bad, but if it does it makes all kinds of clicks and knocks and can actually start to push the crankshaft out the front of the block.
I know a guy that had a 454/400 in a GMC dually. the converter ballooned on him and actually pushed the crank so far forward in the block that the truck started throwing and eating belts. Wound up destroying every part of the motor except the heads and intake.
