I have a 1990 F-250 with a 351w in it. I am in the process of replacing the 351 with a 302. Can i use my 351w exhaust manifolds on the 302 I am putting in?
why does the 302 & 351 have different part #'s for the manifolds then? im confused!
Who knows..
I used 302 manifolds on my 351 when it was first swapped in, and they mated with the stock Y pipe with only a minor modification. The mod was necessary because the 351 block is slightly wider. Otherwise everything bolted up fine.
i knew i would find some sort of difference. the manifolds from my 351w has the egr tube in it, and the on the 302 the egr tube goes into the lower intake manifold. anyway, i used the 351w exhaust manifolds on the new 302 and just put a metal plug in the manifold where the egr tube threads in.

Ah yes.. forgot about that. I blocked the EGR until I had time to install headers which have the fitting for the EGR tube.
I just left the egr tube in the lower intake as it is on the 302, but used the 351w manifolds w/the plug in it so i dont have problems with the Y pipe lining up after the engine is in. I figured that would make everything overall easier.
went to hook the y pipe up last night to the new motor and it doesnt fit, not even close. it looks to be about 1-2 inches too wide. should i just buy a new y pipe for an f250 with a 302? it looks like the only other thing i could do to make it fit would be to cut a small section out of the pipe and weld it back up to make it narrower.
how could i clamp it together if the 2 pieces are the same size in diameter? any tricks/details would be greatly appreciated as the new pipe is like $235! Thanks
Go to the parts store and get a piece of exhaust pipe adapter that fits into the inside diameter of the exhaust pipe. Probably about $5 with clamps.
Yes.. that's what I did for a temporary fix with my Y pipe. There are OD and well as ID size couplers available that should slide on there without much hastle.
