Exclamation 89 f250 engine swap

i have an 89 f250 4x4 with a 351w and i was wondering what all i would need to drop in a 6.9 or 7.3 diesel. would parts of the original wiring work and is there any way to clean out the old tanks to use them instead of gettin new ones

It would be easiest with a donor vehicle. Some of the wiring would work but you would still need some diesel specific wiring and computer. In addition to the engine you would need the diesel 4X4 trans because it has a different bellhousing bolt pattern than your 351W trans. You could pull the tanks you have out, remove the fuel pump/sending unit and drain all the gas out. Do the diesels use the same fuel pumps as the gas trucks? You would also need to look at your cooling and exhaust systems. The conversion is not a job that I could see completing in a weekend. If you really want a diesel it may be easier to sell your current truck and put that money towards the purchase of a diesel truck.
