I'm thinking of upgrading the exhaust system on my '87 F-250 Banks Turboed 6.9L. Still has the 3" pipes and "old" muffler. I'm leaning toward the Banks "monster exhaust" set up. I'm getting 15.5 +/- mpg highway, can an exhaust upgrade improve mpg?
Thanks...

Well, if you "still" have the stock exhaust it isn't 3" - more like 2.25"-2.50"...
And in answer to your question, yes, a free-flowing exhaust will increase both your mpg AND power - especially if combined with a less restrictive air intake system.
Look in a few user galleries for ideas - mine, Dave Sponaugle's, KJLYPW's, etc....
The Banks Turbo Kit comes with the 3.5" exhaust. Which is perfect for the system. There's no gains to be had with a 4".
Even the PSD running 30 PSI doesn't gain anything with an exhaust over 4". It's all bling from 4" up. Unless you go all out, and start running over 50 PSI. Which requires muuch more, than just an exhaust system.
