Hey all, I have a freind that has a 01 F350 and he went to the lake and back with no load. He was about half way home and he said the tranny started acting up not shifting properly. He stopped at a small town and had a service guy look at it and said the shifting moter was bad and it would cost him 500.00 bucks to replace it. My question is isnt the moters he's talking about the shifting solinieds and is it a common problem and can you get this part cheaper than the dealer and how hard is it to replace. THANKS guys!
I haven't torn into my tranny yet, that's a good thing for me. But i do know that discountfordparts@y2k.com has great prices on oem ford parts. I have bought a ton of stuff from them and they are always almost half the price of my local dealer.
If he is referreing to the shift solenoids than yes it is easy to change out. Drain the fluid, drop the pan, takes a torx bit and a 10mm socket. Don't remember the size of torz bit right now. Clean the top of the tranny as best as possible around the connecotr on the passenger side. remove screws and 10mm nut. Put pressure on top of connector and slowly wobble the shift solenoid body out. put a little grease on the oring for the new one and put it in. Tighten it all up. fill it up, now would be a good time for a flush as well, off you go. The solenoid body from the deale is about 280 bucks or so. I have only heard of a few that are actually bad, did they actually test things or just plug in the diag connecter and spew out a charge?
Im not sure the main details but Im trying to find out if a SES light is present. The guy that looked at it said it was a shift moter which I never heard of. I've got to do some more reaserch and go from there. Thanks for the info.
