My 6.9L has used 1-2 quarts in 4K miles (more in freeway use) since I got it in 1987. They will use some, no matter what. It now has 132K and still uses about the same amount.

I got about 158kmiles on my 93' and it uses about a quart between oil changes. I change oil every 3,500 miles (5,000 km) I also use Duralube Engine Treatment at each oil change.

The 91 F350 uses about 2 quarts between oil changes. I am still trying to break this truck in right. When I got it water from the hood had leaked into the intake thru the air filter nut and I am starting to think it may have corroded a cylinder wall or two a bit. The truck had 30kmiles on it when i got it and since I now have put on about 10kmiles it has gone down in oil usage. That is the trouble with buying used stuff. You don't know what the truck has gone thru before you got it.

A tip for all none turbo 6.9l and 7.3l users:

Check your hood seal (reseal with silicone if necessary) to make sure no rain water collects on the air cleaner lid and ends up in you motor thru the air cleaner nut.

Seb...

Only check oil warm after a suitable shut down time......then run at 1 qt/ltr above add. This will stop any overuse.......... I always fill mine to spec it then seeks the level IT LIKES which is always 1 qt/ltr above add......

About 1 qt every 1000 miles for mine - though the 6.9s tend to use a little more than the 7.3s from what I've read. Plus mine is probably leaking half that from the RMS and the DS valve cover (haven't gotten around to trying to tighten it down yet)...
