Hello everyone.... I havent been on for awhile. I'm back now. for awhile I was thinking of replacing my blown 302EFI with a 351w. I think that I changed my mind. A buddy of mine has given me a 302 with around 37,000 miles on it. Apparently it came from a salvaged vehicle. So I think that the choice is obvious. No??? So I guess that I am gonna put in the 302. Are there any mods that can be done to a 302 on a limited budget???? Also I found a true dual exhaust system from JC Whitney and want to know what I do about the o2 sensors which is located in the y-pipe and in front cat. I am eliminating both the y-pipe and the cats.

Definitely put a cam in it unless the motor is from a 94+ truck or a Mustang.

Are you installing headers? If not you'll need to weld on a fitting for the O2 sensor on the passenger side exhaust near the manifold.
For the amount of modifying you will have to do to get that exhaust to fit, it would be easier to take measurements of where you want the exhaust to run and get a muffler shop to bend you the pipe. You will have to weld either way and it will be less modification if you start with pieces made specifically for your truck. If you are adding and exhaust, you will want to get rid of the stock air box and just add a filter element to the end of the intake tubes. K&N sells a dual inlet filter kit to fit your truck. If you can do a bit of fabing to make a support bracket, you can just buy the filter instead of the filter and the bracket. Getting rid of the stock air box will not only give you a few extra ponies but it does wonders on sound combined with an exhaust. Im really happy with how mine sounds.

This I totally disagree with. Yes it gves you more noise, but it hurts performance becasue the motor is pulling hot engine compartment air in instead of cooler air from outside.
good call Conanski.....thing ya gotta remember dude.....its a 30-twice....ur only gonna get so much outta it....if you think of what you're gonna spend to make it run mediocre.....then compare it to a bigger engine......another engine is prolly the way to go....but thats just my .02
See I disagree with you disagreeing. More air flow is good for performance. On these trucks, where the box is the air wont get that warm anyway. Plus you dont take out the tube that pulls air from under the front of the hood. You leave it in and that gives you an even better supply of air. And rusty, you would be suprised what some small mods can do for these motors. On my truck just with a dual exhaust and that filter element, I shaved over a second off my 0-60 times. Stock I could get it up there in about 10 or so seconds. Now its a flat 9 average.
thanks for the great suggestions guys....I am only putting this motor in as opposed to the 351 because its free and it has 37,000 miles on it. I have seen some bad *** sounding and performing 302s out there...I am just looking to get some mild mods and an awesome sound.
I have a bit of advice. Check out your salvage engine before you drop it in.
When I inspected my used/salvage 91 Mustang GT 302HO had 2 spiders, cob webs, a bolt, two washers, and a missing nut to hold the oil pick up tube on.
When I removed the heads, I had some scuffed cylinder bores and what looked like some caked up aluminum at the top of some of the bores. I also had a siezed head bolt that broke off after a couple tried to get it out.
Take the oil pan off to check the bottom end and remove the heads to see the bores from the top.
