89' F-150! The battery has been off for a while now. I went and bought a new horn which is Airmite 2(Air horn) Everything else looks fine and the instructions say that you can plug it right in to the original hook ups. I did this and switched them again and again. Do I need the trucks engine on? I am in the process of an radiator core overhaul and not to much is hooked up right now. The bell came on when the battery and key was in and turned to the on position. Any suggestions?
Can anyone give me any feedback? The solenoid switch is working when I hit the horn but nothing will sound. It could be that the ground isnt all that great, but what else?
No the key doesn't have to be on, and if you can hear the relay click, the fuse is still good. Check for 12v at the horn connector when the button is pushed. Is this a compressor? Might not have enough power through the stock sized wiring to handle it.
Yes, it is one of those small compressors with the two air horns in the package. I will check it out and see if I am getting 12 volts once everything is hooked up and ready to go. Then maybe I can fix it. If anyone has changed this part on thier truck and had the same problems please let me know so I can fix it right away.
I had those at one point, before upgrading to something louder.
Used my own circuit to power it with a 20amp feed, 12gauge wire, and a 30amp relay.
Assuming you have cruse control. Up under yer dash is the stock horn relay above yer gas pedal and even with the steering wheel or so. That has a blue wire which comes from the horn button which you cut and run to a new relay like in my diagram above.
If you don't have CC, i'll make you a different diagram.
I kinda understand all the diagrams and all, but i think i have a bigger problem now. My front end is fixed, grounded and all together now ready for hook ups. Put in the key and the power is working turn the key....nothing. I hear the fuel pump start up and that is it. No click and my ignition switch is brand new. before I took everything apart I tried it out and it was working fine. Started the truck right up, and better than before it was rigged. Fixed that problem and now back to square one with the truck not even trying to turn over at all now. Checked all the fuses under the dash and none are burned out. The relay that you say is under my dash is actually clicking when the horn is pressed and I pulled it out from behind my glove compartment. The glove compartment is not attatched and the relay switch only has 3 prongs as where the relay given to me with the air horn package has 4 prongs. The relay behind my glove box though does have that blue wire running to it and into the relay that is clicking. Stuck !S*@%
Well I ran some wire to test it and it worked. Horn problem fixed, just have to put in that 20 amp fuse now. It works but i guess it is a percautionary so i don't melt the wires huh?
