So, I thought it was the ball joints that were in need of replacing.....but I was wrong. I bought the X in December and got the oil changed for the first time last weekend (less then 3000 miles in that span too ). I asked my wife's mechanic (I refuse to work on her Pacifica) to look at them when he has it in the air. He calls me back to the work area and shows me the ball joints, they have grease fittings...OMG....I was so happy. They were in fine shape. Now, it was on to search for what was making the noise. It turns out that the inner tie rod (s) were really loose. I could wiggle them by hand.
Now, the question is, how much of a risk am I at if I leave these until I have a little more money? Or should I bite the bullet and do it now?
I looked to see how much the parts will run me at NAPA. $177.00!!!!! Then I am assuming that I will need to do the alignment too. Uggg........Is there anywhere else to get the parts cheaper? This is my first vehicle that isn't a foriegn car.
i would curtail beer consumption (well maybe a little) to keep the front end under the beast in top shape! let yer wallet dictate what ya do but i wouldnt skimp
Tie rods can be a bad thing to let brew. If you loose one, maintaining control can be very difficult as one wheel will be totaly "un-steered" and usually just flops over all the way left, or all the way right.
She likes it, and she works to pay for it. Out of all the cars she has owned, this has has the least amount of upkeep. Even though I was looking at tires......700 for a set...WTF....maybe I should just go the el cheapo route, but I don't think I have that in me.
I guess I will be fixing the X in 2 weeks......I should just wled the f'rs solid....LOL
