I have been wanting to put in a performance chip and air intake, in my 01 Escape. Any suggestions or testimonials regarding this is highly appreciatiated.
I repeat....
XCal2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Air intake does nothing, exhaust does nothing, both together may get a few HP, add an XCal2 and wake that thing up.
I put a k&n panel filter in my 01 and it made a difference, so I don't see how an intake does nothing, it's not a super charger just an intake ha ha. It can rev a little free'er and after the k&n , it would bark the tires at the corner stop sign where as it wouldn't before, also a little harder punch on excelleration, I mean "sure", an intake isn't going to make gobs of power, but it free's up the engine a little, a touch more punch and a cool sound. A catback is good for 2 to 3 hp, but nice rumble, I don't expect an intake is good for anymore than that, but it's a couple of more than you had.
I can't tell you exactly on an escape, but it is allways one of the biggest bangs for the buck in my experience. On my ranger, my bama programer, which is an Xcal 2 with Dougs custom tunes. On the 92 octane tune, it made 10 hp and 14 foot pounds, thats on a 4.0 sohc. On the 3.0, if thier good tunes, should be 6-9 hp and around 10 ft pounds, the higher octane level you tune for, the better the results. I have no experience with the escape as I never did the programer on mine, but with my experience with programers and knowing the 3.0 dohc, I'ld say I should be close. I would do the intake, catback and then tune for those mods as the intake will effect the air/fuel ratio. The programer will help you get the most out of your mods. Just specify what mods you have when ordering, at least thats how it works with bama. Actually my bama programer has 3 tunes, an 87 octane mpg tune, 92 octane torque tune and a 93 octane hp tune. I mostly run the 92 torque tune as I 4 wheel alot and all 3 tunes get me better mpg than stock as long as I keep my foot out of it hee hee.
Sure would like to see a comprehensive compendium of just what really is available on the market for ESCAPE PERFORMANCE. Searching all over the web can be frustrating when I'm sure others have already done a thorough job of locating and possibly installing the best of the best Performance Items available.
