small blocks with mud
What trany will work best with a 351? I would like to stay with a 5 speed standard. Also what about the transfer and rear end. I am going to rebuild the 351 from a thunder chicken from the base up. I stil want to use the truck for hauling. I could care less for 1/4 mile performance or any speed over 85mph. My truck is a 90 base model with a 301. also I will modernize most parts, like an electric fan and water pump. Any ideas? I love deep mud and sh..y trails

If you like the 5 speed....that's the "best" tranny for you. keep it.
Electric fans give you a little HP boost......no drag from the original belt and clutchfan....I don't mud but I'm not sure electric would be all that good in mud and water and s**t.
You're going to see a difference in HP and torque with the 351 over the 302 anyway......If the truck hauled ok and did what you wanted before.....I wouldn't change gears and transfer case till I had to. It should just do it easier and a little better with a 351.
