OK, after searching A LOT of threads, I haven't yet found this particular question asked: Has anybody gone from a BTM to a straightpipe, & how much louder (whistle, exhaust note, & drone) would you say it is? I'm seriously considering this on my truck. Rest of the exhaust is stock, with no cat.
Is a straightpipe so obnoxious that you can't drive through a quiet neighborhood without getting rocks thrown at you?
I've never had a BTM, but I DID have a Magnaflow (with the 4"SS pipe) on my truck, and I love the straight pipe sound. Yes, if you get on it in a quiet neighborhood, it will be loud, but I've never found it to be obnoxious to myself but I don't think I can say the same for the guy next to me in a rice burner with his crap music blaring. Imagine a slightly quieter Peterbuilt with the jake on 10" stacks at 40 mph LOL. I find myself rolling down the passenger windows and driving next to retaining walls just to hear that sweet sound! My advice is to get a chunk of pipe and replace the muffler temporarily to see if you like it. If you don't put the BTM back on and you're only out $10....
I like mongo75 have a 4" strait pipe and love the sound. Never had any rocks thrown at me. But if I am getting on it in a quiet neighborhood, they can't hit me anyway. And if I don't get on it, it's a gentle rumble. Like the old tv add says "try it, you'll like it".
I would and did, get the 4 in MBRP 409SS unit. Why? Because if I had gone with the walker BTM, I would have wanted more later. I would have wanted a 4 in downpipe. So, I went the cheap route and got the 4 in system instead of getting the BTM and then later tossing it for the 4 in system
