Removing Transmission

first off...my truck is a 1997 F-150 Ext Cab,4x4,4.6L V8,5 Speed Manual.

well i have discovered more problems with my truck i just bought...the transmission started making noise....i knew it was making a noise before but it definatley got worse....anyways i drained my transmission fluid and discovered pieces of bearing cage stuck to the magnetic drain plug.

so i decided to pull the transmission....
what i was mainly wondering...is if it is possible to pull the transmission and transfer case together?...without splitting them under the truck?....it would be alot easier to split them on a bench than in the truck....

any insight into this transmission pull would be greatly appreciated!!

As long as you can support them together, I don't see why you couldn't pull them together.

It's done all the time. Just a matter of properly balancing them on a jack.

alright..well what i was more worried about is if there is going to be enough clearance backwards before the transfer case hits that second cross member.

in other words how long is the the shaft from the transmission to the motor where we will be splitting it.
