The same as it can with the stock turbo. 30psi. I would definatly stud and fire ring the heads, as well as deleting the EGR long before I would cough up money for a new turbo.

30psi, no matter what turbo is installed. Above this and the head bolts can stretch and the head gaskets want to then leave.

Hope this helps.

I think you'll find that no more than 30 lbs is required to reach the 500 rwhp mark with a proper and efficient turbocharger and mild set of injectors. However the heads puking is far more dependant upon backpressure, not manifold pressure. 40 lbs of manifold pressure with a good S300 turbocharger will usually do less harm than the stock VGT at 32 due to the heavily reduced backpressure.

Thats not to say cylinder pressures won't most likely make the heads leak even at that point; because there is a good chance they will. Studs are quickly in order any time you go beyond a tuner- and even with some of the more powerful tunes.

Just to clear up a seemingly common misconception- there is no "max" safe boost level that can be run on these trucks. There are tunes available that can break parts at 22 lbs of manifold pressure where there are some around that will push 35+ and never encounter issues. Too many variables involved to point at a specific number- boost level, backpressure, injection timing levels, mean cylinder pressures (derivative of the actual power you are producing) and the type of turbocharger (generally indicative of the boost to backpressure correlation) all can contribute; along with the quality control from the factory of the specific engine in question....the latter actually being the most critical. Some heads and blocks are simply not flat from the factory; and these trucks WILL eventually blow head seals; modified or not.

Matt:

Your advise is always highly respected of adn so i pose a uestion to you that may be common. My 2003 6.0L does not appear to have evidence of puking or loosing coolant but occasionally (say 1-2 times a week) I smell coolant in my vents but cannot seem to track it down. Any advise.
