O.D Light flashes
The otherday on my way home on the tollway the rpm's went from 2000
to 3000 on my 96 4.0 efi ranger and the o.d light started to flash and the truck
was reving high all the way home.I pulled in a gas station and shut it down then started it up again and the truck ran fine. This has happened 2 times both times
on the tollway on my way home from work on windy days. what would cause the engine or trans to jump out of overdrive like that. the trans fluid is fresh and full
so i dont think thats it. can anyone give me an idea what might cause this to happen.
Well seeing as how you say the tranny fluid is fresh & full, I assume this problem began after the tranny fluid was changed, right????
If so, a couple of things come to mind, one is, was the correct tranny fluid used & is the fill level right????
I know you sid it was "full" but if it is overfilled, it could cause the tranny fluid to foam & the pump can't pump frothed up fluid very well.
By the same token, if it's underfilled somewhat, the same aeration thing can happen to the fluid & if you don't have enough, it can also get hot & boil & cause the tranny to act out.
SO, were you having any problems with it before the new fliud change & did you cehck the fluid by the book, with it fully warmed up & the vehicle on level ground. All those things are important, to get an accurate reading.
If all those things come to naught, a tranny shop should be able to pull the tranny computer trouble codes & that may give up a good clue on where next to look. Post all the codes found.
Just some things & thoughts to ponder.
