Red face speedo question?

I have owned my tk for 4 years now (1965 F100)Just yesterday the speedo needle started jumping about 3 to 4 miles back and forth at the speeds of 35-45 MPH. Would it be worth my while to pull the cable out and lub it, Or am I looking for trouble! IF i lub it what should I use And is there anything else I should Change. Thanks for Help

Had simular problem and checked in the ' shop manual' and did not find very helpful "apply speedometer cable grease", part# B5A-19581-A. Anyhow, removed cable from tranny, removed keeper securing gear to cable. Unscrewed the cable housing from the back of speedometer, them pulled the cable out. Guess they leave 'cable grease' to one's imagination but I applied lite grease to entire cable and reassembled. I found a felt washer inserted into the back of the speedometer and applied very small amount of grease, not too excessive did not want to get any in the speedometer mechanism. Have not had problem since. Also, had simular issue with other 65 F100 and found the connection on the back of the speedmoter had worked loose disengaging the cable from the speedometer housing and allowing it to whip around.
