Question 1978 F150 w/ 460 engine

I am in the process of purchasing a 1978 F150 with the 460 engine. The price is 4K. The miles are all original 51,441. The truck is in excellent condition. Is 4K worth it? What should I expect on MPG?

I don't think that a 460 was available in the f150 series. I am guessing that someone has swapped out the engine and tranny. If it looks like the swap was professionally done, no leaks, good oil pressure & compression, transmission oil isn't burnt, then personally I feel it will be a good buy. especially considering the low miles. My grandad put a 460 in a half ton. With 3.50 to 1 gears the best mpg was in the high single digits.

ford did offer the 460 in the f-150, but only in 2wd's, don't know when they started, but believe the last year was 79. I was getting 12 mpg in an f-250, all depends on how you drive it, and how it is tuned. Sounds like a good deal.

Note:
The 460 was NOT available in 4x4's only during the 70's right up until 1982.
1983 was the first year for a 460 4x4

Tons of 4x2's received 460's -73-82
