power antenna

I'm installing an alpine CDE-9852 head unit in my 81 f150 and Im not sure what to do with some wires. The alpine has a lead going to the power antenna and one to the instrument illumination cluster. The previous owner had installed a pioneer DEH-1300 and it has no power antenna and illumination lead and there is no extra wires in the truck. My question is do I just leave them or is there something I have to do with the wires?
thanks

I your not installing a power antenna just let it hang .... as far as the instrument illumination cluster .... the wording to your question leads me to believe that these wires are on the back of the radio you are installing...... if that is right.... the illumination goes to a 12volt/while the key is on source. Its justg so it lights up. however if it is a radio that only needs to be lit up at night .... you can wire to you running lights. If the alpine wiing is the same colors as Pioneer Red and Orange are 12volt only ith the key in the on position. Yellow is wired to a full time 12volt source no matter where the key is. The yellow wire is the memory wire for the radio or CD memory. The blue wire with the bullet typr snap connector on it is for the power antenna and or a remote starter so to speak for a power amplifier (it turns on the amp when you turn on the radio)

Hope this helps ya out

thanks for the quick reply, I wired it up last night and left the illumination lead unplugged and everything worked fine, the lead your talking about is it the ignition or "ACC" connection? I am under the impression that that ignition lead was the one that illuminated and turned on the deck so why is there an extra illumination lead?

Most vehicles have an illumination wire so you can turn the brightness of the display up or down along with all the other dash lights when your lights are on at night. Some aftermarket radios will also have this function, if you dont hook up the wire the display is usually at the brightest setting no matter what.

The only other reason for the illumination wire would be an added feature for when the lights are turned on the radio lights up so you can find it at night when it isnt turned on. If this wire is hooked to the inturment panel lights, it may be lighting upa few lights with out powering other lights on the unit.

Do you have the wiring schematics or installation instructions?

If not here is a PDF file you can download if you need it.

Thanks for all the help. I do have the installation instructions for the the deck but the wiring harness in the truck has been spliced into by the previous owner making it hard to identify all of the wires. I just wired it up like the pioneer that was in it and everything is working fine. I was just curious to find out what the illumination lead was for
thanks
