Help! I'am getting 12 to 13 MPG. can someone tell me if you they have had this problem with a f-150 WITH a 302 engine out of a early 90's mustang GT 4x4 31x10x15 tires, 5 speed over drive, 3:55 gears factory mustang headers 3 inch exhaust, no cat, flow master muffler. wondering if I don't have enough back psi.? For one, your tires are probably a little large for 3.55 gears and a 302/5spd, so your cruising RPM are on the low side for a Mustang engine that is probably tuned to run a little higher RPM or with a lighter load. Your exhaust is probably a little more tuned toward the performance side than the mileage side of things, too. Is your speedo recalibrated for the tire size?

I run the 31's with 3:55 rears all time get 13-14mpg on most of the non mAF trucks I have had. I think it may be a combo of the cam in the stang motor and the exhaust may be some of it. I've had 16 Ftrucks of various combos and even with all the posts about freeing up exhaust . I keep the y pipe and use a single 3 " or dual 2 1/2". All the trucks according to my gas records run better . If you want true duals go with the smaller pipe . It has worked for me for 20 years .
When is the last time you ran codes and did a tune up? A failing O2 or tired plugs /wires can effect proformance /MPG 2 Good luck
