Overheating

I have an 89 Ford F150. I just replaced the factoy radiator, which was clogged with rust, and my truck still overheats. I dont have any coolant leaks. Could all of that rust build-up cause the water pump to fail, even though the pump is relatively new? If not the water pump, is the problem caused by a sensor or switch? This is starting to become expensive to troubleshoot.

Thanks, Greg...

Remove the thermostat. reconnect the hose. Remove radiator cap and run engine. Look inside, if you see fluid circulating in the radiator, buy a new thermostat. If you see no circulation, looks like it's the water pump.

Overheating

Could it be air trapped in the system? Does it really noticeably overheat or is the gauge registering higher than "normal", indicating a hot spot due to trapped air?

I agree on the thermostat. Could be corroded shut or nearly shut. Check also your coolant sensor. Most shops will have a infrared temp gauge they can use to find hot spots.
