OK so when I go to put the engine back in my truck I would like to upgrade the old throttle linkage on my truck, it's rusty.
What can I use on my truck, has anyone dealt with this?
70 F250 390 edelbrock carb.
I did the cable,it's easy, quick, makes adjustment easy etc. The one down side I see is if something happens...use the double throttle spring,or I even went triple so that if I lose the cable, things shut down or at least keep working mostly OK. I lost a spring once and limped home by hooking my foot under the pedal, same with something sticking, you can pull it back with your foot with mech. linkage. I don't do as much time as I would like in the "treasure field" but I bet there are some cool set ups if you look around...cable or mech linkage.
I'm going to agree with the late model cable. They are a snap to install and once you get the carb end mounted in the proper spot there are no adjustments.
For what it's worth,I had a stock cable that was way past prime...I tried one of the custom ones from one of the big name companys. It was a snap to install, just one modification to the pedal. I like it well enough but I think sometimes of going back to a cable from a later truck. Something beefier, with dust seals and such.
Place pedal down against the floor, open carb to WOT and measure distance between carb hole and pedal rod hole. Make it that length and bolt it together. Now you know it has WOT when the pedal is mashed. Both of my trucks are done this way.
