Diesel 1 or diesel 2

Does any one have a preference, or noticed a difference?

D1 is kerosene which has less btu's while D2 is what everybody normally runs. D1 does not gell up as D2 will in cold temperatures.

D1 is more expensive and gives you less power. Most people use a blend of D1 and D2 in cold temperatures to prevent the fuel from gelling.

Excues the remark, but why in the hell is it called supreme then???
Then, for the winter months, a 50/50 mix? Summer, dont waste my money?

I've never heard it called supreme. Only one I've heard called supreme in relation to fuel is 93.

I've never heard of supreme, either.

There is no point running D1 in the summer months as the price for D1 is usually $.50 more a gallon and your mpg's will not be as good as D2.

Most fuel stations have a winter type blend. A 50/50 mix of D1 and D2 is fairly common in the northern states. However, most people make their own blend as a 50/50 may be "overdone."

A lot of guys use an additive such as diesel kleen or howe's to reduce the possibility of their fuel gelling. These additives seem to work very well for most of us.

Been using B5 premuim soydiesel for 7 years summer and winter. No problems. Found out my supplier puts antigell in fuel year round in the #2. They tested to -20 and no gelling in freezer test.

Yep, it all depends on your supplier. We've been using soy for over 10 years now and only had a handful of times that its been a problem.

Our supplier won't sell the B20 after Thanksgiving until mid April due to possible gelling of the B20. They use it in all their delivery trucks and tanker trucks.

Sorry to bring this back up, but the diesel supreme that I listed earlier is supposed to burn hotter, it was not diesel 1 as i had first thought. They claim to have 50 count ( i lll try it ) in cetones...The highest allowed in production??? Is it worth the extra .06 per gallon if this is indeed the case?

My local BP station used to sell Amoco Premier Diesel that had minimum 50 cetane rating sticker on it. My truck loved it and I wish I could find it again. Since ULSD hit the market, I have been unable to find anyone selling any sort of premier, premium or supreme diesel.

So where in Metro Detroit did you find this fuel and how much?

It is a company called spencer oil, regular diesel 2 was 3.19, it was 3.25 for their supreme. I was asking the guy about additives, he kept trying to tell me everything my truck would need was in there.

Thanks for the info. Spencer is a local distributor of BP/Amoco and Ashland/Marathon fuels.

As far as the additives go, he is right about not needing any if the fuel is anything like (or is) the Amoco/BP Premier Diesel.

I did not realize you were local, if you head to spencer, come from the grosebeck side, the tracks are under construction, so you are unable to get there from the schoneher side. I will give you a shout later when I fill up, I expect it to be more today.
