08 Ford Update / GM Update

Dropped my 08 6.4 off at the dealership this afternoon to get the spray in bedliner done. It'll be finished tomorrow, can't wait as the Enterprise rental Chevy Cobalt I'm driving tonight just doesn't cut it.....

Talked to my svc mgr about the new 6.4 and was told directly from him in pretty close to exact words that other than the reflashes they have had no warranty work performed on the new 6.4's..... He said he hasn't seen any whatsoever come in for any mechanical issues. Gotta love that feedback and this is from a guy that I can honestly say I do trust.

On a side note a guy from my church happens to be a District Svc Manager for GM overseeing 17 local dealerships and so of course we were talking about the new diesel DPF systems the other day. I asked him if the GM system is the same in principal as the Ford and his response was that it is the same system in operating aspects. Obviously the filter might be built by a different company. They no doubt have got to have the same shut down procedures when extreme heat is determined in the DPF due to a mechanical malfunction. Mentioned that the only reason Ford had some issues was from a bad batch of injectors. I'm not sure how much he actually knows about Ford, but seems to know his stuff in regards to the big three. He did not know I owned a new Ford 08 and nor did I mention it after his response so I was curious to see what his response to the question would be and whether I'd get any biased response, but to be completely honest he did not do any bashing, but stated the new DPF system works and shouldn't cause any problems.

My thinking is Ford took a bum wrap by doing the reflash first and having to do an actual recall on it because some had already been sold while the others quietely followed Ford's lead with their own reflash before they started selling their trucks thus nobody knowing the better. Or had it programmed in from the get go. If you remember correctly both GM and Dodge didn't begin selling their diesels until about 3 weeks after Ford did. Also heard from a Dodge guy on a D forum about a month ago that he was informed his truck was delayed due to a programming issue with the new emmissions systems.

So all that being said I absolutely love the truck. Was concerned before I bought it that driving an F-350 in congested traffic and trying to park it would be an issue, but it has been absolutely no problem and the reverse sensors are a great option. Ride to and from work in the big rig is great. Can't wait to get it back on Friday! Two weeks from now I'll be towing a 26 ft boat about 1,200 miles and am looking forward to comparing the towing capabilities to my former 04 Ford Supercharged Expedition. My thinking driving it empty so far is that it's a far superior (obviously) tow vehicle in all aspects including torque and capabilities. That is also comparing to an Expedition that developed nearly 450 HP / 500 ft lbs torque according to the dyno and factoring in 15% powertrain loss....

I'm happier with this truck every day that passes and I didn't think I could be any more satisfied than the first day I drove it off the lot.
