Tilt Column

Any idea what length tilt column is needed in a 1952 F1. I am putting in a Mustang front and was going to use a 68 cougar column. But i changed my mind and Have decided to get a Iddit or Flaming River. I thought someone might have all ready put one in and know what to get. THANKS

No-Limit Engineering recommends a length of 32-33 inches for 48-56 Ford trucks...

I've got a 30" jeep cherokee in my 48 and it seems to be the correct length.

I have a 32" tilt from a Jeep GC for my '56. The column isnt in yet, but as near as I can tell.... with a shallow dish banjo style wheel, I'll be a happy guy! (happy short guy..... maybe thats why 32" will work for me)

Speaking of columns. I'm getting pretty serious about some plans for a Mustang II install, and have a couple questions...

First, can a guy NOT use the original column, or do so many change it out because they want the tilt, or other options that new columns come with?

Second, if you can't use the original column, does anybody make an aftermarket column that isn't dad gum shevy wired and engineered? It turns my stomach to think that a shevy wired and engineered column might be my only option.

Thanks!

Blue, you can use the oe column and adapt it to a MII, but there's some fab involved. Most go with a modern column because it's easy and you get modern features. Going darkside has some advantages. AFA the gm wiring, it's just built to the gm standard connector, which the aftermarket has accepted as the standard street rod wiring system. There probably aren't any gm sourced parts in it. You can cut and past your own ford connectors, but to what advantage? When you go with a MII front end, there probably aren't any ford parts in it, it's just a custom front end built to a particular standard, in this case pinto/mustang II. Before the MII was around, the standard was corvair. Most "corvette" m/c's are the same, just an aftermarket part built to a particular standard, based on some corvette part that happens to work. This is just a case of an industry adopting a particular system as the standard, like vhs vs beta, pc vs mac, etc.

Yeah, you've got a good point there. And, as I stated in another place, if I go aftermarket (even if it is based on GM design and engineering) I can always claim it's an "ididit" or "TCI" or "CPP" part. I just like for fords to be fords, and I like going into the local parts store and asking for Ford parts, for my Ford, not shevy. That may just be something I need to get over.
