My '96 F150 extended cab has a wet driver's side floorboard. Removed the trim and pulled the carpet back, but can't tell where it is coming from? I've noticed this condition the last couple winters, but not in summer. I thought it might be a plugged drain tube, but dumping water into the area at the base of widshield on a warm day showed that it drains out under the truck. Any troubleshooting tips are appreciated.
Wing windows are notorious for leaking....the weatherstripping gets bad........water could be coming in around the door if that weatherstripping is shot........it will wick across the carpet from there too. Check your door panels at the bottom for wet.
Use that bucket of water or a hose on the door and see what you get.
Good Luck
that used to drive me crazy until I figured out that every time I got in the truck the heater melted the snow off of my boots and it ran under the mat and froze back up untill spring.
Could be the seal under the cowl. Mine did this on the drivers side as well. It would run into the engine compartment under the carpet. I just removed the cowl and sprayed some sprayfoam and let it dry. Haven't had the problem since.
A windshield leak will also do it. When it rains if I cover the cab with a tarp from the chrome trim at the bottom of the windshield to the back of the roof, my floor stays dry.
I had the window leak also. According to the Ford dealer, its a common problem with the 80-97 trucks. Mine was so bad i pushed on the glass and I could see a gap to the hood.
Well, on my '87 the air boxes on either side of the front of the cab there are rubber. . .I dunno, like big rubber scuppers. Mine had been filled and clogged with leaves for years (all mulch when I cleaned it out). When it rained the water falling into the front cowling was suppossed to run down and out those "scuppers" but instead was filling and backing up into the space between the cab sheet metal down by the kickboard. Rotted it all out, and the sound deadening material under the rubber mat held moisture all that time and rotted out the floors. I ended up pulling out the rubber bits, scrapping all the gray-foam sealant from the front area (which was also applied over what appears to be drain holes ) and used a hose to blast out all the gunk. Never had any water in there afterwards
Thanks for the input. I had not thought of several of these paths for water to get in and will begin exploring them with a hose. I have to admit that I wondered about the snow melt off my boots and have been carefull to knock off as much as possible. Unless I get a tub type floor mat it's hard to rule that out, but the amount of water seems like more than would melt off the boots.
